I love finding inspiration for my work in my immediate environment. Living in West Auckland I am fortunate to be able to move between exhilarating urban life and exquisite natural habitat. So I reference urban and natural formal qualities in my designs.
Another important aspect for me is the human body as a reference point. This includes the body as site and also the

body as a source for design ideas. After all it is my body that enables me to have an immediate sensual experience of my environment.

I observe my external world in the search for beauty. A concrete wall can reveal a gorgeous surface quality, a piece of rusted steel or coloured plastic can look precious in the context of jewellery, paper printed on silver can remind of the deliciousness of human skin and of course feathers and other reminiscence of nature are obviously beautiful. I am inspired by having to look very carefully and consciously at things to be able to discover their beauty. I feel very privileged to be able to then translate my findings into objects other people might like to wear because they respond to the designs.
Now my fascination with the technical challenges of jewellery making comes into the picture. Sitting down at my work bench and figuring out the work process and its implications is almost a meditative process. The same applies to the actual making.

I always feel satisfied and relaxed after a session in my studio.
